Sermon by Ouma Patrick
Scripture Reference: Luke 5:4-6 (NIV)
"When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, 'Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.' Simon answered, 'Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.' When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break."
Introduction
Many of us live in the comfort of the shallow waters—safe, predictable, and controlled. But God calls us to go deeper in faith, in obedience, and in trust. Just as Jesus instructed Peter to cast his net into the deep, He is calling us today to step beyond our limitations, fears, and doubts into a realm of divine provision and purpose.
1. Leaving the Shallow Waters of Doubt
Peter and his companions were skilled fishermen. They had toiled all night with no results. Their experience told them it was useless. But Jesus called them to act not based on their experience, but on His word.
Shallow waters represent limited faith – trusting only in what we can see and understand.
Deep waters require radical trust – believing God’s word even when logic says otherwise.
What is God asking you to trust Him for today? Are you stuck in shallow faith, hesitant to go deeper?
2. Obedience Precedes the Miracle
Peter’s breakthrough only came when he obeyed. He could have argued or refused, but instead, he said:
"Because you say so, I will let down the nets."
Many people want blessings but resist obedience.
God's instructions may not always make sense, but obedience is the key to unlocking the miraculous.
The biggest catches in life happen when we trust God's direction over our own reasoning.
Are you ready to say, “Lord, because You say so, I will obey”?
3. The Reward of Going Deeper
When Peter obeyed, the results were beyond his expectations:
A catch so big that the nets began to break!
A blessing so great that he needed others to help him receive it!
This is what happens when we step into deeper faith:
Abundance replaces emptiness.
Purpose replaces frustration.
Divine provision replaces human limitation.
What if the breakthrough you seek is waiting for you in the deep?
Conclusion: Answering the Call to Go Deeper
Jesus is calling you today: "Go deeper." Deeper in faith, deeper in prayer, deeper in your walk with Him. Like Peter, your best catch is waiting—not in the shallow waters of comfort, but in the deep where obedience and faith meet.
Will you cast your net in the deep?
Prayer: Lord, help us to trust You beyond our understanding. Give us the courage to step into deeper faith, knowing that You are our provider and sustainer. May we obey Your voice and exper
ience the overflow of Your blessings. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
